Abstract The three-probe method for separating the spindle rotation error and specimen form is extensively described in literature. An attractive feature its application in-process measurement. However, resulting uncertainty studied far less extensively. In this paper, an evaluation propagation uncertainty, as well reduction, given based on system transfer function (S-function). First, utilizing Laplace transform, measurement model developed expressed by S-function. Second, laws of input uncertainties are analytically deduced computing partial derivatives S-function roundness. Then, numerically validated Monte Carlo simulations. show that propagate with varying amplification over harmonic domain, moreover, they enable quantification both total Taking roundness a decisive parameter, three approaches proposed reduction: (1) hybrid 3-PM, where two estimates combined taking individual estimate lowest (2) fusion weighted average taken (3) angle optimization, which minimizes properly arranging sensor angles. optimization applied to conventional 3-PMs. genetic algorithm adopted speed up process.
